Introduction of Hijjal (Dhatriphala)
Hijjal is a medicinal tree. It is commonly known as cut nut, freshwater mangrove, Indian putat, itchy tree, kandu almond, small Indian oak, wild almond. The seeds of the Hijjal tree look like nutmeg. They are rough, brown, and marked with longitudinal grooves. These seeds taste sweet at first but bitter and nauseous afterward. It helps treat many ailments like abdominal colic, various diseases of the blood, lumbar pain, syphilis, blennorrhoea, febrifuge, malaria, and diabetes. The leaves, fruits, and seeds of Hijjal are used for therapeutic purposes in the Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani system of medicine.
