Fibroids can develop due to various reasons. Popular causes are:
- Age
Mostly fibroids develop in women at the age of late 40s and early 50s. Not every woman who suffers from fibroids has symptoms. Fibroids can be of different sizes.
- Unhealthy Diet
Consuming foods that are rich in refined carbohydrates and sugary foods have more chances to get affected with fibroids. Such kinds of foods spike sugar levels. Hence the body needs to produce more insulin. Excess insulin leads to weight gain and affects fibroid's growth.
- Unhealthy Lifestyle
Fibroids can occur by following an unhealthy lifestyle like alcohol consumption, consuming more oily and sugary foods, low intake of fruits and vegetables, stress, etc.
- Imbalance of Hormones
An increase in estrogen levels leads to the growth of fibroids. Similarly, if our body doesn't have enough progesterone levels, the body doesn't get the ability to control the growth of fibroids as well.
- Race & Genetics
The growth of fibroids can be due to genetic and racial reasons also. Around 40% of uterine fibroids can occur due to genetic abnormalities. If any of your family members have fibroids, you may also get chances to get affected with fibroids.
- Endocrine Disruptors
An endocrine system is a group of glands that are distributed throughout the body which synthesizes the hormones produced in the circulatory system. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals lead to hormonal imbalances and the development of fibroids in women.
- Lack of physical activity
The studies have proven that women who do regular exercises have less chance of the growth of fibroids. Lack of exercise increases BMI (Body Mass Index) which is an important factor in the development of fibroids.
- Pregnancy
During the pregnancy period, the hormones like progesterone and estrogen level increases which are another factor for the development of fibroids.
Fibroids can develop due to several reasons like pregnancy, lack of physical activity, hormonal imbalances, endocrine disruptors, genetic reasons, unhealthy lifestyle, unhealthy diet, and age.
