The general reason behind the inflammations of the sacroiliitis are:

  • Autoimmune diseases like psoriasis, rheumatism, and SLE lead to the development of Sacroiliitis.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disorder that progressively affects the hips and vertebral column.
  • Trauma in the form of accidents or falls is another reason for the development of Sacroiliitis.
  • Certain infections of the sacroiliac joints lead to the development of sacroiliitis.
  • Urinary tract infections may spread to the sacrum or ilium- resulting in the infection of the joint which in turn leads to wear and tear of the joint.
  • Pregnancy is another reason for the development of sacroiliitis due to the overstretch of joints to provide space for the baby.


Various factors that contribute to the development of sacroiliitis are autoimmune diseases, urinary tract infections, Ankylosing spondylitis, pregnancy, infections, and trauma.
