Introduction of Kewra (Ketaki)
Ketaki is a perennial shrub grown as an ornamental plant. It is valued for its fragrance. The brilliant red colours are visual delights. A fully developed kewda tree would produce spikes consisting of 30-40 flowers, each weighing about 6 inches. Leaves are used to make mats, bags, and baskets while the roots are used to bind them together. It is available in the form of Kewra Oil, Kewra Perfume, and Kewra Jal (Hydrosol). The plant has therapeutic benefits too. As per Ayurveda, its taste is bitter, sweet, and pungent. Its qualities are light for digestion slimy in nature and have hot potency. It also reduces vitiated Kapha and pitta dosha.
