Introduction of Laksha (Lac)
Laksha is a reddish-brown resin secreted by female lac insects that have been widely used to heal bone fractures and strengthen bones. It belongs to the Lacciferidae family. Laksha is used in preparing many Ayurvedic formulations. Lac is mainly cultivated in India and Thailand. The insect lives on trees called lac host trees where they secrete the lac resin which is scraped off and manufactured into shellac.
