As per Ayurveda, different methods are adopted to cleanse the lungs. Important of them are explained below:
- Steam Therapy
Steam therapy is the effective and easiest way to cleanse your lungs. During the winter season take steam every day for cleaning your congested air passages. Inhaling water vapor opens up the air passage and helps the lungs to drain mucus. .
- Gargling with Turmeric
Before going to bed at night, gargling with turmeric water helps to eliminate toxins from your lungs. Turmeric contains curcumin, which helps in dissolving the mucus. It has healing properties that kill bacteria and treat colds and cough. Thus it helps to relieve chest congestion.
- Pranayama
It is an effective technique to clean your respiratory tract. Practicing pranayama helps to clear the mucus in the air passages, relieves congestion, reduces bloating, and improves lung function. Putting one drop of sesame oil in each nostril after practicing pranayama is very beneficial for lung health.
- Cinnamon Tea
Cinnamon Tea helps in cleaning the lungs and treats respiratory disorders. The method of preparation is adding a small piece of cinnamon to one glass of water and boiling it until the water becomes half its quantity. It is better to add cinnamon to your regular tea.
- Ginger Tea
Ginger tea is famous for its anti-inflammatory property. It eliminates toxins from the respiratory system. It strengthens your lungs and provides immunity to the body.
- Kavala or Oil pulling
It is a process of gargling with oil. This process cleans the lungs, clears sinuses; and reduces the risk of allergic reactions. Normally sesame oil is used for this purpose.
- Ghee in Nostrils
This method clears nasal congestion and balancing Kapha. Dip your little finger in liquid ghee and massage each nostril. Sniff deeply allowing the ghee to enter into the nasal passage.
