Introduction

According to Ayurveda, the Thyroid is made up of Pitta and Kapha Dosha. The thyroid is a gland located near Vishuddha Chakra (throat area). The thyroid is a part of the endocrine system and is considered a very sensitive gland. The imbalance of Pitta is the main reason for thyroid diseases as per Ayurveda.

Effective functioning of the thyroid gland is very essential in controlling body functions like digestive system, bone maintenance, brain development, regulation of metabolic rate, etc.

General reasons for Thyroid disorders are

  • Iodine deficiency

    Iodine deficiency due to poor nutrition is another cause of the occurrence of thyroid disorders.

  • Stress

    Stress is one of the factors for the occurrence of Thyroid disorders. High stress causes your body to release adrenaline and cortisol which in turn leads to thyroid symptoms. .

  • Immune system disorder

    Autoimmune disorder is one of the reasons for the occurrence of the thyroid. Under such conditions, the immune system attacks the thyroid and makes the gland damaged.

    Certain medications, especially iodine contained medications cause the shrinkage of the thyroid gland and less production of thyroid hormone. .

    Toxic nodular goiter results in the enlargement of the thyroid gland which leads to less production of thyroid hormone.
