Introduction
Parkinson’s disease is a neurological illness caused by the breaking down of cells in the nervous system. Due to such a condition, a patient loses control over the body movement and experiences shaking or shivering while movement and at advanced stages causes behavioral and emotional problems.
It is about around 1 in 500 people who are affected by Parkinson's disease. Most people with Parkinson's start to develop symptoms when they are over 50, although around 1 in 20 people with the condition first experience symptoms when they are fewer than 40. Men are slightly more likely to get Parkinson's disease than women.
As per Ayurveda Parkinson's disease is known as Kampa Vata or Vepathu. Vitiation of Vata is the reason for such a condition. Ayurveda aims to balance the disturbed dosha and restore healthy balances in the mind, body, and soul.

Causes Of Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson's disease is caused due to a loss of nerve cells in the part of the brain called the substantia nigra. Nerve cells in this part of the brain are responsible for producing a chemical called dopamine. Some of the other causes are:
- Age
Advancing age is the factor that is most consistently associated with an increased risk of Parkinson's disease. The average age of Parkinson’s disease onset is 60, and most people who get Parkinson's disease develop the condition after age 50. Only 5 to 10 percent of people get Parkinson's disease before the age of 40. These cases are more likely to be related to genetics.
- Gender
Men are at a slightly higher risk of developing Parkinson's disease. It is unclear if this may be because men have traditionally had greater exposure to some environmental factors that increase the risk of its development.
- Family history
Having a parent or sibling with Parkinson's disease is thought to nearly double the risk of developing the disease. Five to 10 percent of people who have Parkinson's disease also have a family member with it.
- Gene variation
The gene is involved in blocking toxins from being properly disposed of in the brain, leading to the death of healthy brain cells. Other gene abnormalities also lead to the disease.
- Head injury
People who have experienced head injuries that knocked them unconscious may be at an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
- Environmental toxins
Heavy or prolonged occupational exposure to certain toxins, including manganese and other heavy metals, as well as certain pesticides and herbicides, have been associated with an increased risk of Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's-like conditions.
- Medications
People who have used sleeping pills or anti-anxiety for one year or more may be at increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
- Depression and Anxiety
Depression and Anxiety are the main factors to develop the symptoms of the disease.
General causes of Parkinson’s disease are age, gender, family history, gene variation, head injury, environmental toxins, medications, depression, anxiety, etc.
