Shitada (Gingivitis)

Inflammations on the gingiva or gums are known as Gingivitis. Gingiva is the soft tissue surrounding the teeth. Inflammations sometimes affect other tissues like periodontal ligament, alveolar bone, and cementum.

Everyone's mouth contains bacteria. Some bacteria are safe for the body while others create problems like infections, plaque accumulation, bleeding, etc. If you can treat gingivitis at an early stage, it helps to prevent the transformation of plaque into tartar, which is very hard to remove. Such situations cause gingivitis to worsen.

According to Ayurveda, gingivitis is known as Shitada. The vitiation of Kapha and Rakta is the main reason for the development of Shitada.

Different Stages Of Shitada (Gingivitis)

Gingivitis can be grouped into four stages. They are

  • Stage 1

    Beginning of inflammation caused by bacteria in plaque. Inflammation started after 2-4 days of plaque accumulation. During this stage, we may not experience any discomfort, and only mild symptoms can be identified. .

  • Stage II

    Stage II is known as the initial lesion and occurs after 4-7 days of plaque accumulation.

  • Stage III

    The third stage is called the established lesion. During this stage, discoloration of the teeth and surface texture can be identified.

  • Stage IV

    Stage IV is the advanced lesion phase where the symptoms of gingivitis become worsen.

Causes Of Shitada (Gingivitis)

Gingivitis may occur due to several reasons. Most important among them are

  • Viruses

    Virus infections cause gingivitis. The most important among virus infections are acute herpetic gingivostomatitis, which causes gums inflammation.

  • Illicit drugs

    Illicit drugs are one of the factors for the occurrence of gingivitis. The effects are dry mouth and various gums infections, sometimes severe.

  • Systemic diseases

    Gingivitis is sometimes associated with various systemic diseases like respiratory disorders, diabetes, stroke, coronary artery diseases, etc. .

  • Allergies

    Studies have shown that allergies to certain things cause itchy gums like certain foods. .

  • Hormones

    Hormonal changes are other reasons for the development of gingivitis which occurs during pregnancy, menopause, and puberty.

  • Plaques

    Plaques occur when bacteria in the mouth react with the food. If plaques exist in the mouth for a long time create tartar which is harder to remove.

Natural Ways To Cure Shitada (Gingivitis)

Home remedies are effective ways to treat gingivitis symptoms. As we know prevention is better than cure. Treating in an early stage reduces the chance of transformation of plaques into tarter. Home remedies are always safe to practice. Various herbs have proven that they have antiseptic effects.

  • Margosa leaves

    Applying a paste of margosa leaves, massage for 5 minutes, and keep this paste on your mouth for 15 minutes, after that wash with fresh water.

  • Cloves

    From the ancient period onwards, cloves are considered the best remedy to cure dental pains. Take a glass of hot water, add one teaspoon of clove powder to it, and allow this mixture to become lukewarm, wash your mouth with this water every night.

  • Saltwater

    Take a glass of warm water, add a half tsp. of salt in it, mix it well and rinse your teeth with this water daily twice helps to relieve inflammation of the gums.

  • Turmeric powder

    Turmeric is rich in anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Take a spoon of turmeric powder, add some water to it as it becomes in paste form. Brushing with this paste twice daily helps to get rid of gingivitis.

  • Lemon juice

    Lemon is a rich source of Vitamin C. Take a spoon of lemon juice, add one tsp. of salt to it, mix it well and apply this on your gums, leave it for five minutes, and after that wash with fresh water.

  • Oil pulling (Kavala)

    Kavala is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy to improve oral health. How to do oil pulling is swishing a tsp of oil on your mouth in an empty stomach for up to 30 minutes. This technique reduces the development of plaque in your mouth due to gingivitis.

  • Aloe vera mouthwash

    Aloe vera is rich in antioxidants and an effective remedy in treating gingival inflammation and plaque. Keep this juice in your mouth for 30 seconds and repeat this twice or thrice a day for better results.

  • Guava leaf

    Guava leaf is rich in antibacterial and anti-microbial properties. Washing your mouth with Guava leaf mouthwash controls the development of plaques and prevents inflammation. .

  • Black pepper essential oil

    Black pepper is rich in antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Putting a drop of the oil is the finest way to cure bacterial infections on the gums.

  • Pomegranate

    Experts suggest that pomegranate can reduce pathogenic dental bacteria and plaque accumulations.

Lifestyle Changes To Prevent Inflammations On The Gums

  • Avoid excess consumption of sugar.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day.
  • Use natural toothpaste and natural mouthwash for better results.
  • Avoid the use of tobacco.
  • Use a toothbrush that has soft bristles and change it every three months.
  • Floss between the teeth once a day.
